Beschreibung
In Alena Wagner's new prose, the reader encounters a number of culturally and spiritually significant historical figures – the saintly Bishop of Prague and art historian Antonín Podlaha, writer Karel Kraus, poet Rainer Maria Rilke, painter Max Švabinský, and Johannes and Sidonie Nádherný. However, this is not a historical novel, but rather a novella in letters. The chosen form of fictional correspondence between Antonín Podlaha, Karel Kraus, and Johannes Nádherný allows the author to capture the inner lives of the main characters, penetrate their relationships and experiences. We become witnesses to their search for what it means to be close to another person or to experience their, albeit temporary, loss, and above all, the various forms of the relationship between a man and a woman – from spiritual sympathies and platonic closeness to unrequited and rejected love, to an intense, almost romantic sibling relationship.
