Beschreibung
This book examines the dramatic events of the brief period of the Second Republic that fundamentally affected the lives of people in the regions around Jablonec and Semily. Focusing on the period after the Munich Agreement in October 1938, when the borderlands were annexed by Germany and the Reichsgau Sudetenland was established, Petr Taranda uses historical sources, contemporary testimonies and previously unpublished photographs to describe the demarcation of the new state border and everyday life in the occupied territory. The book covers not only political and military events but also the region’s social and cultural changes, including education, industry, culture and the position of the Czech minority under the newly established conditions. It offers a broad view of the period for specialists and regional historians as well as readers interested in the fate of the Czech borderlands. The contents are in Czech.
