Both techniques, cupping and moxibustion, are part of traditional Chinese medicine. They represent a summary of practical knowledge and skills in addressing various health issues. Cupping, which is primarily used for musculoskeletal problems, utilizes the effects of negative pressure by applying glass or plastic cups to the skin. The heat and suction help to relax and relieve the subcutaneous tissue, ligaments, and muscles. Moxibustion (burning) is used to treat active acupuncture points according to traditional Chinese medicine and has similar effects to acupuncture. It uses the intense radiant heat of burning herbs, primarily mugwort, on selected areas of the body.
