This Czech-language nonfiction book presents information that is little known not only in the Czech Republic and Germany, but also in Western Europe and the United States. During the Second World War, the German occupation authorities forcibly took thousands of children from their families in Belarus alone and turned them into “living blood reserves,” repeatedly drawing their blood until they died to supply German military medical services. These crimes were not committed by SS units, but directly by units of the German army, the Wehrmacht. After 1945, Germany built a false myth claiming that the Wehrmacht had not participated in wartime crimes. Because this fact remains virtually unknown in the Czech Republic, while German criminals are gradually being rehabilitated both there and in Germany and presented as fighters against evil Russia or as victims unjustly persecuted by the Soviets and Czechoslovakia, the author decided to publish in Czech this basic information about one of the most brutal crimes committed on a mass scale against children in the German-occupied areas of the Soviet Union.
