For the opinions contained in this publication, the German occupiers had the author imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp, where he lost sight in one eye, but he survived and returned to Czechoslovakia. In this book, Stašek addresses the issues of the sovereignty of the Czech nation, and unlike all politicians or 'intellectuals' who see the future of the Czech nation in subservience to other nations, Stašek posits absolute sovereignty and independence for the Czech nation. However, Stašek clearly states in his theory of the three sources of strength of the Czech nation that a nation can only be successful if it holds onto faith in God and His message, pointing out that this was the case in past times. Using the example of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection, Stašek illustrates the unchanging law of God that evil can never permanently triumph over good. Just as the innocent Jesus was crucified, the Czech nation was crucified by the Germans, but just as Jesus rose after His death, so too did the Czech nation rise from the grave that German nationalism sought to permanently cast it into, as Stašek himself discusses. Stašek did not see a contradiction between Czech patriotism and Christianity; on the contrary, he saw both as firmly intertwined.
