Even today, more than 30 years after the fall of the communist dictatorship in what was then Czechoslovakia, we can find a street in Prague celebrating the terror of one of the first European socialist dictatorships, which inspired not only Karl Marx but also Vladimir Ilyich Lenin to justify brutal terror in the name of the proletariat. This is Komunardů Street. It has been more than 150 years since the uprising of the French Communard movement, which, through its brutal barbaric terror and killings in the streets of Paris, foreshadowed the horrors of the communist genocides of the 20th century. The Communards were members of the revolutionary dictatorship in Paris in 1871 (it was a revolutionary uprising following France's defeat in the war against the German states in 1870), who became notorious not only for their brutal terror but also for their efforts to establish a socialist regime in Paris (among the positive proposals to improve the living conditions of ordinary people were purely socialist proposals, including the restriction of human rights in the name of the majority's interests), and after their short rule over Paris, the Communards were executed en masse in retaliation for their brutality and killings, while some were sent to forced labor. Shortly after the events of 1871, the movement and government of the Communards were mythologized, and their crimes were downplayed...
