This Czech-language book tells the story of Pong, a gorilla born somewhere in equatorial Africa, the only part of the world where gorillas live. When he is about one year old, Pong is poached, and because gorillas defend their young, this also means the slaughter of his entire troop and family. He is then sold to a wealthy Qatari sheikh as a toy for his children. Pong lives with people in a palace for several years, until he reaches puberty and becomes dangerous to those around him. The sheikh’s children grow tired of him, and the sheikh decides to have him killed. By coincidence, a German veterinarian works for the sheikh at that time and helps Pong reach Prague Zoo. When Pong first encounters gorillas, however, he does not know how to interact with them. He has not seen another gorilla during his adult life and considers himself human.
