This graphic novel tells the gripping love story of Jaroslav Klecan, an International Brigades fighter who fought in the Spanish Civil War, passed through French internment camps and joined the domestic resistance during the Protectorate. In Spain, he met the young Francisca, known as Paquita. Their letters, filled with love and hope, were discovered in Valencia decades later. Klecan’s fate also became intertwined with that of journalist Julius Fučík. While Fučík became a symbol of the Communist resistance after the war, Klecan was branded a traitor. More than fifty years later, Paquita sets out to discover the truth about the man she never forgot. Intended for teenage and adult readers, the comic captures key events in 20th-century Czech and European history, but above all it is a story of courage, commitment and love, with Francisca as a central figure.
