The novella "The Death of Anloumian" by Syaman Rapongan pays tribute to the souls of the island through the literature of the Tao ethnic group, who have long fought against evil.

Anloumian, a descendant of seafaring ancestors, inherited the pulse of the ocean in his blood, common to the people of the Tao ethnic group; ancient legends and wisdom were firmly etched into his mind and soul, and in the aquatic world, he naturally became an excellent diver.

However, on land, Anloumian was considered an abnormal madman and a social outcast by the people of the ethnic group; he was unable to read and write Chinese characters, had no job with a regular salary, lived alone in a cave by the sea, in the mountains in a simple hut, caught fish, drank, collected cigarettes, and observed the sea; he deeply hated the government that brought nuclear waste to the island and despised the party workers who distributed alcohol, scattered money, and spoke in favor of the party, mocking the "cripples" who did not venture out to sea to catch fish during the flying fish season, thus becoming a madman whom no one wanted to get too close to.

The only confidant was a young man from the village, Takan. Anloumian told him: "Yaji makangai o vatevatek do uwu kou. My head just doesn't grasp those Chinese characters." They were alike; Takan fled from the classroom...
