Mi:Lu Publishing is preparing a collection of essays by the Taiwanese author Yang Mu, who has not yet been published in the Czech Republic, as part of the Wen edition. Yang Mu is one of the most significant and versatile contemporary Chinese writers. A poet, essayist, literary critic, and theorist, he combines literary erudition with the romantic perspective of a poet, captivated by landscapes, people, and historical events. His book 'Memories of Mount Chih-lai' represents the first part of his memoirs, capturing his childhood and youth spent on the eastern coast of Taiwan. Readers can observe how the author's life intersects with the historical events of post-war Taiwan and how he draws inspiration from them for his later artistic work. In the book, Yang Mu presents himself not only as an essayist but also as a poet. His autobiographical prose connects romantic and pastoral scenes with critical and ironic detachment. Although he recalls his childhood from the perspective of a mature and experienced man, he manages to maintain the openness and purity of a child's mind.
