When Lucie and Jem travel to the United States with a group of other students for an exchange programme, they have no idea what awaits them. After the plane makes an emergency landing at Denver airport, they realise that the world they knew no longer exists, and apparently has not existed for a very long time. The runway is overgrown, the terminal is deserted and there is not a living soul anywhere. Nature is reclaiming the city, and dangers lurk at every turn. It even seems that the animals have joined forces against them. What happened? During their perilous journey towards the city centre, they learn about a comet impact and the destruction of civilisation. Are they the only survivors in a lost world, and do they have any hope when the whole Earth itself seems to be against them?
