Probably every history lover occasionally stops to ponder a significant historical event and wonders how history might have looked if that event had unfolded differently. This book deals with one such "what if" scenario. The Shadow of Rome is a historical fiction that combines two of the author's favorite historical cultures – ancient Rome and the tribes of North American Indians. The book transports readers to an overseas province founded by the Romans as a result of the chaos of the civil war between Gaius Marius and Lucius Cornelius Sulla. During the power struggles that shattered the Republic, entire armies were destroyed and reassembled on both sides, so Rome easily forgot about the four legions that had sailed west and lacked the strength to return.
