In the mythical city of Kompiam, many intelligent races live side by side. Nuwan is a human, a cooking apprentice in the service of a great mage, who is seized by a devilish grimoire of magic, whose ink begins to flow in Nuwan's veins instead of blood. Nuwan sets out with the student Lerëh, the daughter of the witch Lyrelei, to her mother's palace, hoping to find help there. But Lyrelei pursues her own interests and takes over her daughter's body. Nuwan is pursued by the terrible inquisitor Amutu and also the former owner of the grimoire – a ruthless mage who is Lerëh's father. Nuwan is in for a surprising revelation of an amazing secret hidden by a creature he had until now only considered his pet...
