No castle feasting in the past, when during a week-long celebration guests along with the servants could consume up to 40 deer, two dozen larks, and hundreds of poultry, drink a hundred barrels of wine and even more beer, ever went without a high consumption of flour, sugar, raisins and almonds, honey, poppy seeds, apples, cream or butter, and other ingredients. Confectioners created incredible sweet treats from them. Some of the recipes, dating back as far as two hundred years, have survived to this day and have truly become a staple in Czech and Moravian families. The book contains 63 such recipes. And it is true that all the slices, cream cakes, and passion cakes tasted just as delightful on castle tables as they do in contemporary households.
