Jan Řehounek has an extraordinary emotional connection to the Mrlina River. In his childhood, he loved wandering around it, later he fished in it and swam under the Nymburk locomotive depot, and he has walked or cycled hundreds of kilometers along its banks. He knows it like few others. Therefore, he decided to write its 'story.' He built upon his five previous volumes of Mysterious Trails and thus concluded his wanderings through the region close to his heart.
The journey begins at the source of the Mrlina in the Podkrkonošská village of Příchvoji and follows the initially narrow stream down to Leština, Střevač, Chyjice, and Dolany. Occasionally, it diverts, for example, to the charming Sobotka crowned by the Humprecht Castle, to the proud Kost Castle and the romantic Plakánek Valley, or to Bukvice, above which rises the remarkable Loreta. It continues to Jičíněvsi with the dominant castle and to the ancient Kopidlno, which, along with several other municipalities (Mlýnec, Rožďalovice, Křinec...) further down the river, was already covered in Mysterious Trails through the Svatojiřské Forest, yet even now he finds new points of interest. He cannot resist and visits Staré Hrady, Libáň, or Češovské Valy to discover touristically almost untouched places.
Below Křinec, he enters the Polabian plain, where the artificially created Sánský twists...
