Welcome to a walk through the Magical Borderland of the Lusatian Mountains, a beautiful natural corner bordered by the Ještěd Ridge to the east, the Zittau Mountains to the north, the picturesque Ploučnice River to the south, and the rugged rocks of the Czech-Saxon Switzerland to the west. Here you may encounter the eccentric shaman Václavka from Vlčí Hora, the aristocrat among artists Michal Vitanovský, the indelible traces left by the famous abbot of the Zbraslav monastery Petr Žitavský, the saint Zdislava from Lemberk, the genius musician Bedřich Smetana, ruralist František Křelina, or the writer of the Czech countryside Karolina Světlá. Together with the author Luboš Y. Koláček, we will visit many of the local castles, fortresses, towns, and manors - Jablonné, Grabštejn, Lemberk, Vartemberk, Milštejn, Žitava, the glass-making town of Nový Bor, or Kamenický Šenov, and many more. The ancient lookout towers on Hvozd, Jedlová, Dymník, and Tanečnice will offer us beautiful views in all directions, as will the newer ones on Ještěd or Na Stráži in Sloup in Bohemia. We will learn interesting facts about the history of brewing and in Varnsdorf, we will taste beer from the local brewery. And then, if we are lucky, we might also encounter mountain dwarfs, ghostly dogs, bloody apparitions, and other local spirits. Why...
