This collection of classic short stories by various authors showcases horror literature, which, in addition to fear and mystery, does not lack romantic elements and literary quality. Most of the stories fall within the period or under the influence of Romanticism, when there was a turn towards mysticism, secrecy, and the dark sides of the human mind, and terrifying tales of vampires and bloodthirsty beings began to emerge in the gloomy settings of old castles and noble residences. The selection by Tomáš Korbař is among the best written on the vampire theme and is complemented by collages by Klára Trnková.
