The Christmas course is a series of lectures by Rudolf Steiner emphasizing the perspective that should be adopted by anyone studying medicine or already practicing as a doctor. The starting point is an organic understanding of the human being and the processes occurring within and outside of it, between the world and the physical body. The balance between disease and health is maintained by the astral and eternal body, while the balance between the individual and the world is ensured by the polarity between the physical body and the I. In both cases, there is a constant balancing act. Often, inadequate processing of emotions becomes a cause of illness, which is why diagnosis cannot be cultivated without a sense of emotional life. In the book, the author describes the functioning of bodily organs as special senses that perceive and regulate processes associated with breathing, circulation, nutrition, etc. He emphasizes the importance of common scientific approaches, as well as the significance of learning about the signatures of plants and minerals, which a doctor must keep in mind to understand the processes in which the human spirit intervenes, transforming everything that enters the individual. The book also includes interpretations of substances such as magnesium, lead, calcium, and others, as well as an anthroposophical perspective on fundamental alchemical concepts.
