The life of Jan Amos Comenius was filled with difficult moments, various spiritual and physical suffering, and life trials. He gradually lost his parents, wives, children, homeland, witnessed the suffering of his friends and fellow believers, the decimated Czech nation, and sensed the impending decline of the church. From this crucible of suffering emerges the refined gold of encouragement, which is not expressed in cheap words, as we often hear, but springs from the testimony of the Holy Scriptures, which primarily bear witness to the suffering of Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. Because the Son of God, Jesus Christ, experienced the worst humiliation and suffering in light of the majesty He left behind when He became human for us, to be punished for sin in human flesh, He has the best words of comfort and encouragement for us, as well as prompt help, so that we can overcome all life's hardships. To whom else should Jan Amos direct our attention in his message but to Lord Jesus Christ? He does so with wisdom gained from life experiences and with certainty, because he knows whom he has believed.
