The workbooks are part of a new set created for the first grade within the Reading with Understanding edition. Similar to the Living Alphabet and the Primer with Tom Cat, the accompanying characters are Alice, Michal, and Tom Cat, illustrated throughout the workbooks. The practice of writing letters refers to the corresponding pages in the Primer with Tom Cat. To facilitate writing, there are guiding lines to maintain the size and slant of the letters. They are also suitable for left-handed children. Workbooks 1 and 2 introduce various exercises before practicing individual letters, which are the foundation for writing each letter. Emphasis is placed on difficult letter connections that appear in words. Workbooks 3 and 4 follow Workbook 2.
