Beschreibung
Edgar Allan Poe at the end of his life, according to events, circumstances, testimonies from close individuals, letters, and his last stories and poems. A documentary treatment of the last thousand days of the American writer and journalist E. A. Poe from 1847 to 1849. The author, based on documents previously unknown in Czech, guides the reader through the conclusion of Poe's life and his final works. It depicts the writer's futile struggle with alcoholism. It debunks the myth that Poe did not create after the death of his young wife. It addresses the question of why and how Poe died, as well as what the world of American literary journalism was like in the pre-Civil War period. The sad end of Poe's life somewhat resembles the pages of his horror stories. The book contains a rich collection of Poe's correspondence from the end of his life, samples of his journalistic work, his last poems in English with the author's translation into Czech, basic life data, and the genealogy of Poe's family.
