At the beginning of November 1918, during the tumultuous days of the collapse of Austria-Hungary and the formation of Czechoslovakia, Lieutenant Reiner from Písek receives orders to suppress the uprising of the Šumava Germans, who refuse to accept the existence of the new state and declare their own region, Böhmerwaldgau. Despite facing overwhelming odds, he accomplishes his task and returns to his unit as a hero. However, he is unaware that in May 1949, he will have to cross the Bavarian border as an enemy of communist Czechoslovakia, with his only allies being those very Šumava Germans he once fought against...
