Beschreibung
Although Karol Sidon (born 1942) is one of the lesser-known contemporary Czech writers, a good half of his plays are unknown to both the public and experts. Therefore, in anticipation of the author's upcoming jubilee, we decided to organize a complete edition of his theatrical and radio plays. This collection will thus present Sidon's entire dramatic work for the first time, including plays considered lost. The publication will showcase the author as a dramatist of constant challenges, whose plays have a wide thematic and genre-stylistic range. For example, Sidon has experimented with psychological dramatic expression (in the remarkable "village play" Zpívej mi na cestu), grotesque from a military environment (Latríny), a "portrait" play (his most famous Shapira), repeatedly sought his own "interpretation" of absurd plays (notably the brilliant, completely unknown Etuda o hodináři), successfully attempted dramatic paraphrases of biblical stories (the Purim play Ester), or dramatization (Komenský's Labyrinth). Readers of Karol Sidon have much to look forward to! – Edition and afterword by Lenka Jungmannová.
