Beschreibung
The author loosely builds on her previous publications with ethnographic themes, or rather their gentle popularization. This time, she stylizes the book in the form of ancient calendars, which used to be popular reading in rural households. In an accessible and engaging narrative, she introduces the reader to the everyday and festive life in the village during the second half of the 19th century through the stories of two young people. The narrative alternates between the young man Jakub and his beloved Dorotka as they recount the ordinary and unusual events of one year. It can perhaps be revealed that the year ends for them with a wedding, thus happily... More importantly, the book's format connects to ancient calendars that provided readers with not only practical information but also stories, proverbs, rhymes, songs, interesting recipes, and illustrations. In her tenth book, Kamila Skopová complements a year in the life of Dorotka and Jakub with her unmistakable illustrations, charming folk literature, proverbs, practical guides, and of course – traditional recipes from folk cuisine. The new edition of the book from 2011 is accompanied by the release of Part II.
