The novel with a crime question unfolds on two levels of memory. The first describes the 1980s and the Prague student bohemia with its lively parties and occasionally quite loose sexual relationships. The second captures the state of contemporary Czechia from a distance of fifteen years. Most of the former student group have become successful people, one of whom is even a billionaire. The only exception is the main character of the story, who emigrated to the United States, where he did not find professional success and worked as a laborer for fifteen years. However, when he returns to Prague, everyone believes he is a top photographer. The returnee, who is ashamed to admit the truth, is haunted by a persistent thought. Just before he left for the USA, a tragedy occurred. His friend from the student group fell out of a fifth-floor window – but was it an accident, or did someone 'help' him? If it was indeed murder, there would be several suspects...
