Joachim Gerhard is a German citizen who lived a normal life and raised his two sons. When Jonas was 21 and Lukas was 17, they decided to convert to the Muslim faith. Until then, they were ordinary German boys, studying, playing sports, dating girls, and drinking with friends... Then everything changed; they began to pray five times a day, rejected sports and friends, and became radicalized. And then suddenly, they disappeared into the 'holy war' in Syria. For their parents, but especially for their father, Joachim Gerhard, a nightmare began. He decided to bring his sons back. He travels to dangerous places, actively searches for his sons, negotiates with human traffickers... I will add my personal note. I won't reveal how it ended, but I must say that it is a very powerful book that leaves me, as a parent of adult children, unsettled. Where did this come from in them? They were educated, had no roots tied to Islam and the Muslim faith, lived a normal life with loving parents... Could this happen to me too?
