What will nuclear law look like in the future? This book addresses this question from the perspective of the future development of nuclear technologies over the next few decades. The focus is on questions of future legal regulation in relation to the issue of managing radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel, which every state that has operated or currently operates nuclear facilities on its territory must address. Attention is paid not only to the legal aspects of storing these wastes in repositories in deep geological formations but also to the prospects for legal regulation of the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel. The author examines the issue from the standpoint of the further development of international law instruments as well as our domestic law. In addition to the topics outlined above, this study also addresses the legal aspects of the future development of nuclear technologies: small modular reactors, mobile nuclear power plants, and nuclear fusion technologies.
