Beschreibung
Contemporary Europe has faced new challenges in recent months and years, arising from unprecedented waves of mass migration as well as repeated terrorist attacks. How should the Czech Republic, the European Union, and its member states legally respond to these phenomena? Is our current legal system sufficient, or will changes be necessary? How can we properly balance the state's right to deport foreigners suspected of terrorism against the obligation to respect their fundamental human rights? Under what circumstances can someone be stripped of their citizenship? Is it possible to restrict human rights in exceptional situations? And will it be necessary to reassess the entire existing understanding of human rights, as they have become one of the main attributes of European liberal society? These are just some of the many serious questions that a group of legal experts from Charles University is contemplating, both at the level of national legal systems and at the European and international levels. Therefore, the key themes of the book are primarily migration, asylum, and citizenship in the context of human rights.
