Karel Čapek speaks in many voices. Some pray, some blaspheme, and some deal with matters that seem entirely non-spiritual. Some are the voices of characters, others those of narrators. The book is compiled and annotated by Martin C. Putna, who explores the spiritual history of Europe and the Czech lands across denominations and genres. After Karl VI. Schwarzenberg, Jan Kollár and Václav Havel, he now turns his attention to Karel Čapek.
