Beschreibung
Martin Luther, the most significant reformer of the church, co-creator of the German language, and one of the most important Christian theologians, is a figure that is hard to compare. But is not this greatness of his rather overwhelming? Is not his vehemence rather off-putting? What kind of person was he actually? One of the most accessible ways to find an answer is to look into his letters. Letters to close ones are a brief selection from Luther's extensive correspondence, intended to present the reformer not only as a theologian, thinker, or hero, but primarily as a human being. It shows what burdens, difficulties, and illnesses he had to overcome (sometimes even irritations and harshness), how he continually returned to the joyful hope of the gospel, which he awakened in others, how he possessed humor and sensitivity towards his neighbors, how good he could be as a friend, a devoted husband, and a loving father, and how he fulfilled his calling despite everything until the end.
