Beschreibung
A visual encyclopedia that tells the specific history of our country through 100 artifacts. The briskly written essayistic texts provide not only factual information about the given items and related events but are also written as stories about secrets. Stories of things that shape our identity, that can inspire us, and to which it is essential to return and find our own relationship. The book involved a total of fifty co-authors. With its large format, striking graphic design, and scope, we build on the successful publication 'Guide to Restless Territories,' published by Labyrint last year and awarded in the Most Beautiful Books of the Czech Republic competition. FROM THE INTRODUCTION TO THE BOOK: The visual encyclopedia STORIES OF THINGS tells the stories of one hundred artifacts related to the history of our country in a timeline from 1918 to the present. The book transcends the descriptive level of the form and function of things and seeks stories that shape our identity, that can inspire us, and to which it is essential to return and find our own relationship. Short authorial essays work with various kinds of perception and interpretation of the past – with the expert approach of historians, anthropologists, or journalists on one side and the personal perspective of witnesses on the other.
