The textbook addresses the fundamental features of the second major legal system of Euro-Atlantic civilization (besides the much better-known European continental law), in which history and current legal regulations are inextricably linked due to the extensive influence of judicial precedents. Initially, the development of individual key institutes of common law in England is depicted in chronological order, with a detailed explanation of their essence, while the local constitutional development, which is very closely connected with the evolution of a distinctive form of parliament and the doctrine of the rule of law, is not overlooked. A comprehensive interpretation of constitutional development is also devoted to the section discussing American legal history. This is finally followed by a description of the basic aspects of Anglo-American legal philosophy. A significant contribution of the book is that both authors have provided the textbook with an extensive selection of original Anglo-American legal sources in Czech translation, which should help readers form their own unbiased judgment on various issues of legal development in this area (in addition to the essential legal sources, many others appear here in an effort to make this mosaic as representative and diverse as possible).
