Hanácké pohádky a pověsti – Štéger Bohumír (2017)

The presented book once again introduces the collecting work and storytelling art of Bohumír Štéger (1908–1985) after a long time. Some of his legends and fairy tales have already been published several times, while others have not been published at all. The aim of this edition is to organize Štéger's work and publish separately the legends about castles and chateaus, separately the legends and fairy tales from the Sudetes, including works of unspecified locality, and the Legends and Fairy Tales from Haná and Záhoří, which we are now presenting to you. A large part of them was published only once, exactly 60 years ago. We believe that the time has come to release Mr. Štéger's florid work among children and adults alike. For some stories, this will be a premiere, and the charming illustrations by the young artist Pavla Baštanová will surely ease their journey. Bohumír Štéger worked for decades as a financial officer, and in the 1950s he was a cultural inspector at the District National Committee in Kojetín. He was then employed at the castle in Tovačov – first at the branch of the J. A. Komenský Museum in Přerov, later at the detached workplace of the State District Archive in Přerov. The pinnacle of his work was the literary processing of dozens of legends, primarily from Haná and Záhoří. In 1957, two books of these stories were published (Haná Fairy Tales and Legends, Legends about Castles and Chateaus).
