Vojensko - technický slovník AČ-ČA (2014)

This reprint of the original 1942 edition presents a military-technical English-Czech and Czech-English dictionary. It was printed in London during the Second World War for Czechoslovak soldiers serving in the British armed forces and fighting with the Allies against Nazi Germany. Published in 1942 by the Study Section of the Ministry of National Defence, it was designed to help soldiers quickly understand and learn English military terminology after mastering everyday spoken English. Although its print run was not recorded, few copies are likely to have survived. The reprint also serves today’s translators of military-historical literature by explaining period terminology, military abbreviations, ranks and units of the permanent British Army. The dictionary covers areas for which there are still too few reliable language references; ordinary English-Czech and Czech-English dictionaries deal with military subjects only marginally and often inaccurately. While it focuses on terms current during the Second World War, many remain in use today or were used even earlier, and technical terminology is covered particularly clearly. It is a valuable resource not only for translators working with English-language texts on the Second World War, but also for anyone interested in modern Anglo-American military history. The dictionary includes English-Czech military abbreviations, diagrams of military equipment, British Army ranks and a list of infantry regiments. The text is in Czech.
