This monograph explores how macroeconomic literacy can help people understand economic and social developments in the Czech Republic and the formation of state economic policy. It explains why indicators such as GDP do not necessarily reflect people’s standard of living or quality of life, and considers the role of the state and the importance of economic thinking in a society of limited resources and growing needs. The authors aim to develop an intuitive understanding of how an economist thinks by examining problems from everyday life in all ten chapters. Using concrete examples, they present different views of economic policy-making and provide a basis for understanding the concepts and statements used by current and future politicians when assessing the country’s economic development. Each chapter connects detailed analysis with theory and modern practice, examines the causes influencing national economic results, and is supported by appropriate graphic and textual presentation.
