The book by Vratislav Kulhánek, On the Way to the Castle, summarizes the life of a man who rose from basic working-class jobs to the managerial peak as the head of Škoda in Mladá Boleslav. He recalls his beginnings, the life of a young man during socialism and the harsh normalization, the difficult overcoming of obstacles that the era presented, but also the joys of sports successes as a top volleyball player and rally driver. After the revolution, his star began to rise; he became the director of the Robert Bosch company in České Budějovice and a few years later the chairman of the board of Škoda Auto. Last year, he was one of the candidates for the position of President of the Czech Republic. Vratislav Kulhánek evaluates his life stages with perspective and comments particularly on the election campaign from the position of an active participant and a subject of media interest. Several separate chapters focus specifically on them and their power to influence people's thinking according to simple schemes.
