Beschreibung
A unique Czech-Polish duo of co-authors presents a project that is also unique in the Czech context: at least since 1989, no synthetic work has appeared mapping the history of Polish literature from the end of World War II. This book clarifies and interprets the development of literature in our northern neighbors from 1945 to 1969. The examined period is divided into four stages in the publication. In each of them, the authors identify the prevailing ideological currents, themes, and genres, analyzing and interpreting key works by prominent figures in poetry and prose both in Polish 'homeland' and in exile. Attention is also given to institutions that enable the full development of 'literary culture,' such as magazines and publishing houses, their concepts, and the spectrum of opinions they present. The opportunity to compare contemporary illusions, 'losses and finds,' successes, and failures of Polish literature with Czech literature presents an interesting challenge not only for Czech Polonists or students of Polish studies or Czech studies but also for anyone with a deeper interest in what the authors refer to as literary culture.
