Beschreibung
The book focuses on the fate of the Czech aristocracy during the dramatic period from the early 20th century through the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic to the communist coup in 1948. The authors, experienced historians who have been researching the history of the nobility for many years, concentrated on key events in the history of our leading noble families: the Liechtensteins, both branches of the Schwarzenbergs, and the Colloredo-Mannsfelds. Their attention was not only on political events and their consequences, such as the first land reform, the German occupation of the Czech lands, World War II, and the subsequent liquidation of the nobility as a political, economic, and social factor, but also on capturing the everyday life, attitudes, and fates of the members of the monitored aristocratic houses.
