The book "Robber Knights and Land Plunderers of the Kingdom of Bohemia" is not merely a list of known and lesser-known facts about medieval robbers lurking in forest passes for merchant caravans. The author presents the reader with a factual publication, after several years of research in libraries, archives, registers, and period sources, containing a comprehensive collection of nobles who found themselves in conflict with the law due to their predatory activities. The introductory section provides a more thorough analysis concerning robber knights and land plunderers, among whom there were significant differences. A robber knight was a nobleman who carried out raids and robberies. A land plunderer was essentially a disruptor of the proclaimed peace of the land and, in many cases, a rebel. The main part of the book, in more than a hundred separate short profiles, discusses individual figures from both the higher and lower nobility, including those who, although not of noble birth, often led bands of robbers. Several chapters deal with pairs or even more members of a single family. The concluding chapters discuss well-known figures only fragmentarily, as they are not historically documented, but could have existed.
