Beschreibung
This Czech-language book is a new continuation of the popular series of books about France. Well-known radio reporter and Czech Television and Czech Radio correspondent Jan Šmíd tells the remarkable history of several exceptional brands and explores what champagne means to the people of the region. Through the stories of local people, readers discover the small part of France that suffered perhaps most severely during two wars. The book visits the two main centres, Reims and Épernay, and places where President de Gaulle spent much of his life, where Renoir painted and where Miloš Forman filmed Valmont. It follows picturesque routes made for cycling, stops in idyllic villages and shows that Champagne is not only home to excellent wine, but also a beautiful region filled with remarkable destinies. The book contains more than one hundred colour photographs by the author and watercolours by painter Miroslav Konrád.
