Beschreibung
From the time of Maria Theresa to the end of the Napoleonic Wars, the Habsburg dynasty lacked royal blood after 1700. Men were dying out, and new ones were not coming. For a total of 56 years, no boy was born in either the Spanish or Austrian branches of the family who survived early childhood. Thus, the Mohican without an heir, Emperor Charles VI, had to legitimize the then-unusual succession - through the female line. By the difficult enforcement of the so-called Pragmatic Sanction, he ultimately managed to pass the throne to his eldest daughter, Maria Theresa. The fifth volume maps the period from the ascension of Maria Theresa (1740) to the end of the Napoleonic Wars (1815).
