Beschreibung
The Donbas has become a landscape of destruction, ruins and cemeteries. The people at the heart of this book, written before Russia’s full-scale invasion, are now enduring unimaginable horrors. The Donbas is also the key to understanding the ongoing Ukrainian-Russian war. After 2014, Tomáš Forró spent several years in the war zone in eastern Ukraine, mostly in areas controlled by separatists. He gained the trust of people on both sides of the conflict, staying with them in the trenches and in their homes, experiencing bombardments and listening to their accounts. In this report, he describes their stories, the escalation of the conflict and the nature of hybrid warfare. Today, Forró says he would not rewrite the book in light of the invasion, because he would no longer be able to write it. Most of his contacts have died, and he could not bear to listen to the myths about bloodthirsty Ukrainian Nazis killing Russian-speaking civilians, knowing what has happened in Ukraine since. The contents are in Czech.
