Auroville – Boni Katarzyna (2022)

A life without money and possessions. Without religion and politics. In a community that shares everything. Katarzyna Boni decided to find out for herself how life is in the Indian utopian city of Auroville, fifty years after its founding. The ideals of the sixties dissolved very quickly. Only Auroville remained. A dawn city founded in 1968 by the Mother, who said about it: "Auroville will be a place of endless education, constant progress, and never-ending youth." The first settlers arrived on barren land and built the city from scratch. With their own hands and together. It is designed for fifty thousand people, but only a few thousand live there. Cars do not drive in the streets of the city; everything is sustainable and fair. Everyone has the same. No one lacks food or a roof over their head. Money does not exist in the city. Except that without money, the city would not exist. Since its founding, it has been supported by UNESCO, the Indian government, and private donors from around the world. So how does that self-sufficiency of the ideal city work? Are all its inhabitants truly equal? Or does that equality only apply within its borders, while the poor residents of surrounding villages, who provide various services, are excluded?
