Politická sebevražda – Palmer Michael (2016)

Doctor Gary McHugh, a renowned Washington physician of the upper class, panics and calls his former classmate and friend Lou Welcom. Since the victim is Senator Elias Colston, Lou finds himself delving into the highest government and military circles during his investigation. As if he didn't have enough worries as a divorced father of a teenage daughter, he immerses himself in uncovering the behind-the-scenes of mysterious crimes, where his own life is at stake – but above all, the safety of the entire United States is at risk. Lou finds help only from attorney Sarah Cooper, who is tasked with preparing McHugh's defense, and gradually from a handful of brave individuals who risk everything in the face of the government octopus. Lies in the highest circles, the pathological ambition of military officials, and the feigned blindness of responsible government members lead to a nationwide threat. Lou fights for his own life and a chance at personal happiness, but he refuses to lower himself to compromises, so even at the end of the book, the reader is left with a strange aftertaste that closing the case does not mean the end, but only a continuation...
