All addictions are a substitute for love. Addicted people never learned how to love themselves. There is only one addiction. The author refers to this single addiction as the invisible hole – or the unending feeling that something is missing. If a person decides they want to escape the maze, it is essential to focus on what weakens their soul. They must confront the causes that have created their inner emptiness. People have learned to equate love with the feeling they experience – hence the eternal pursuit of desired states.
