The Book of Spirits is one of the foundational works of esoteric literature. It is essentially about 'messages from the afterlife,' which have always been a source of mysterious knowledge for people. Its author, Allan Kardec, was reportedly in contact with many 'spirits' through various mediums, who gradually dictated to him an exhaustive collection of information, explanations, and lessons concerning life and death. This information is presented here in the form of answers to questions divided by topics. In its time, the Book of Spirits was something of a bible for spiritualists, occultists, and esotericists. Although its language is quite didactic and somewhat old-fashioned, the message it conveys is eternal and universal. It explains the laws of earthly life; birth, death, and the reincarnation of souls; karma or fate; clarifies the relationship between man and God, angels, and other spiritual beings; and advises on how to cope with the tragic events of our lives, as well as how to approach wealth, bodily pleasures, and relationships with others... The Book of Spirits aims to be not only a philosophical and spiritual explanation of human existence but also a practical guide and moral compass to help us live our lives as well as possible.
