This Czech-language textbook introduces first-grade pupils to reading and writing through the genetic method. Its preparatory chapters help children become familiar with the school environment, practise left-right orientation, find differences and discover their first letters. During the autumn and early winter, they learn all the capital letters and begin reading and writing simple texts. The book also includes auditory perception exercises, picture reading and handwriting-preparation activities. Exercises use only letters the pupils already know, keeping the work appropriately challenging. From the beginning, children are encouraged to write down their own thoughts and observations and to assess what they have achieved. Colour illustrations accompany every chapter and exercise, while black-and-white illustrations give pupils the opportunity to add their own drawings. The contents are in Czech.
