Beschreibung
A young French photographer travels to Palestine to document the bombing in the Gaza Strip. In the back streets of a city, he meets an old man surrounded by books outside his shop. When the photographer is about to take his picture, the man looks up and asks whether he would like to hear his story. The books in his hands are not merely objects but fragments of life and pieces of memory. Thus begins the Palestinian odyssey of a man for whom words represent refuge, love of his homeland and a form of resistance. From exile to prison, from political engagement to disillusionment, from theatre to love affairs, from watching children grow up to tragedies that tear his loved ones from his arms, his voice guides us through a labyrinth of history and human life. In a world where bombs seek to have the final word, he reminds us that books are our greatest chance of survival—not so that we can escape reality, but so that we can truly live it. The man reading amid chaos is therefore carrying out the most radical act of freedom.
