Romania is steeped in mysterious legends. The days when travelers merely passed through on their way to Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast are long gone. Today, visitors enjoy stopping in the capital Bucharest as well as in other major cities such as Brașov, Sighișoara, Timișoara and Sibiu, which attract them with their historic landmarks. The greatest draw, however, remains Romania’s breathtaking landscape and its remote villages, where traditional customs have survived. Increasing numbers of tourists head to Transylvania and the Carpathians for hiking and adventure. They seek out old castles and monasteries or make their way to mountain lakes and caves.
