Pavel Řezníček recalls his youth spent in Brno in this almost legendary book, where he lived in a former tailor's or thread shop. The narrative is a collection of authentic anecdotes, and the characters who visit the main character Pekárek in his shop are based on real personalities from Brno's cultural life. Under different names, we meet playwright and director Arnošt Goldflam, composer and scientist Miloš Štědron, poets Jan Skácel, Oldřich Mikulášek, or Zeno Kaprál, director Karel Fuks, as well as the legendary strongman Franta Kocourek and many others. We will also nostalgically reminisce about famous Brno places, many of which no longer exist. Pavel Řezníček claimed that 95% of the novel is based on truth and only 5% is fictional. The stories are packed with anecdotes, full of biting humor and literary gossip.
